Cooking Safety

Did you know that cooking fires are the #1 cause of home fires?

Cooking can be dangerous if not properly carried out. Know the safety rules. Always be aware of the possibility of a fire. Keep flammable things away from the stove.

Never leave the kitchen while cooking, especially if there are children in the area. If you need to leave, turn it off first.

Always have a properly certified and charged fire extinguisher near the cooking area.

In case of a fire, either try to smother the fire, or just call 911 immediately.

Store your food safely to prevent spoiling

Almost all foods have a risk of spoilage, eventually. Maintaining freshness depends on storage temperatures and expiration dates.

Food Storage in Travel

Store your food properly to transport it safely

Perishables should be in a chilled area. If the time of travel will be more than one hour, plan ahead and pack an insulated container with ice.

Place raw meat and poultry in individual plastic bags to prevent meat from contaminating other foods.

It would be easiest to just bring nonperishable foods and/or foods that don't require an alternate temperature setting for safety.
